Luca Buvoli, Italian artist based in New York, discusses his cycles of works “Not a Superhero”, “Meta-futurism”, and “Astrodoubt”, addressing his relationship with American comics — specifically, the superhero genre —  in the greater context of his interest for the multifaceted forms of pop culture and media. Some of the themes investigated in this interview are: pop culture as a source for contemporary art; the role of the superhero genre in today’s society; the links and common aspects between artistic avant-garde and mass culture; the artistic reflection on trauma and vulnerability during the COVID-19 pandemic through the eyes of the social network.
